Camp
Pioneer, "A warm place in the Son," is one-quarter mile of
beautiful beachfront property on Lake Erie in Angola, New York with
75 acres of woodlands, cabins, picnic areas, and grounds.
The WNY Lutheran Laymen's League
(LLL) established Camp Pioneer in 1945. The Lutheran Church-Missouri
Synod, Eastern District, representing nearly 150 member congregations
across the western half of New York, all of Pennsylvania, and part
of Maryland, purchased the camp from LLL. Incorporated in 1991, Pioneer
Camp and Retreat Center, Inc. continues to provide the same quality
Christian recreational and educational opportunities to residents of
New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and other states as well as
Ontario, Canada. Pioneer welcomes people regardless of race, creed,
or religion.
Since 1945, summer resident camping
programs have provided unique experiences with positive role models
affording opportunities to live with one another in Christian fellowship.
Diverse programs for children 6-12, teens 13-17 and families impact
not only individual's own lives, but also their relationship within
their families and their communities as well.
In 1976 Pioneer became a year round
facility and added various outdoor education programs for schools.
A successful program for developmentally disabled children and adults
was implemented. Winterized facilities are suitable for families, youths,
teens, and adults. Retreat facilities provide a unique venue for seminars, workshops, events and retreats that strengthen
families, congregations, councils, groups and individuals of all ages.
Today Pioneer serves over 10,000
people annually in a setting where God's marvelous creation inspires
us to grow as Christians. In many cases it has prepared individuals
for professional church work. It is a place for inspiration and meditation,
for service and relaxation, for education and reflection, for body, mind and soul. It is "a warm place in the Son." To
