"How Do We Dance and Jump Again?" Acts 3:1-10

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE? 1 Corinthians 3:6 Paul says, "I planted, Apollos watered, God caused it to grow."

KEY POINT: All of the ingredients for a HEALTHY CONGREGATION can be found within that specific congregation. The "root" is evaluated, not the "produce". Healthy congregations are growing congregations.

1. EMPOWERING LEADERSHIP 2 Timothy. 2:2; Joshua 24:15b; Ephesians 4:12;
Hebrews 12:1-3

  • The congregation allows its members to lead in ministry
  • Lay workers are not helpers; they are the ministry
  • Modeling
  • Vision casting
  • Mobilizing, equipping, coaching (not just delegating)

2. GIFT-ORIENTED MINISTRY 1 Corinthians. 12:4-11; Ephesians 2:10; 1 Peter
4:10

  • People discover and use their spiritual gifts
  • Spiritual Gifts Inventory
  • Help others confirm their giftedness
  • Classes, workshops, small groups
  • Volunteer workers of our Church receive training for their tasks

3. PASSIONATE SPIRITUALITY Matthew 22:37; 6:33; Romans 12:11-12; Hebrews 11:1

  • People are enthusiastic about their Church
  • Congregational ministry is bathed in prayer
  • Living a Christian life is exciting
  • Enthusiasm and Boldness
  • Issues: legalism, no clear vision/mission

4. FUNCTIONAL STRUCTURES 1 Corinthians 14:40; Mark 2:27; Colossians 2:16-17

  • Do we have structures that promote new ministries
  • Facilities
  • Constitution
  • Organizational Structure
  • Leaders are not simply to lead, but also to develop other leaders
  • Strategic planning
  • Change agents
  • Visioning
  • Issues: power, tradition, control

5. INSPIRING WORSHIP Psalms 122.1, 147:1, 146:1-2, 51:15, 150; 1
Thessalonians 5:16-19; Philippians 1:3-6, 4:4-8

  • Is the worship service and uplifting/inspiring experience for the participant?
  • Going to Church can be fun
  • Does worship impact positively the participant’s life?
  • Celebrative
  • Taking it back to God

6. HOLISTIC SMALL GROUPS Hebrews 10:24ff; Acts 2:46-47

  • Groups are a natural place for Christians to learn to serve others
  • Groups reflect the core values of the whole
  • Groups go beyond Bible Studies to application for daily living
  • Groups are natural entrance points into our Church

7. NEED-ORIENTED EVANGELISM 2 Corinthians 5:20; Matthew 5:16;
1 Corinthians 9:20-22

  • We know the members who have the gift of evangelism and direct them to specific areas of service
  • Are we developing our existing relationships for evangelism opportunities?
  • There is an "invitational" atmosphere
  • Evangelism is always related to need

8. LOVING RELATIONSHIPS John 13:34-35, 3:16; 1 John 3:16, 4:19; Ephesians
5:1-2; Galatians 5:22-23

  • There is a lot of laughter in our Church
  • Friendships are encouraged/evident
  • Family relationships are strengthened
  • Sympathy, empathy, compassion, care
  • Affection and love are very evident
